Pre-purchased English Language Tuition (PELT)
COURSE OVERVIEW
The Pre-purchased English Language Tuition (PELT) programme is designed to support eligible migrants in developing their English language skills to successfully settle, work, and participate in life in New Zealand.
This programme is funded through English language tuition fees paid to Immigration New Zealand prior to residency and administered by the TEC.
As a registered PELT provider, we deliver flexible, learner-centred English courses that meet the diverse needs of migrant learners.
Delivery and Structure

What you will learn
Reading

Speaking
Learners gain confidence in spoken English for social, community, and workplace interactions. This includes:
- Participating in everyday conversations

- Making requests, giving information, and responding appropriately
- Improving pronunciation, fluency, and clarity
Listening
Learners improve their ability to understand spoken English in a variety of contexts. This includes:

This programme is available to:
- Migrants who have pre-paid English language tuition to Immigration New Zealand
- New Zealand residents with a valid PELT balance of entitlement
- Learners who wish to improve their English for everyday life, employment, or further study
Eligible learners may include partners, parents, and dependent migrants who did not meet English requirements at the time of visa application.

Entry Requirements
To enrol in this programme, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be a New Zealand resident or migrant eligible for the Pre-purchased English Language Tuition (PELT) scheme
- Have a valid PELT balance of entitlement confirmed by the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC)
- Be aged 16 years or over (or meet provider-specific age requirements, if applicable)
- Have English as a second or additional language
