Contribute positively to the success of your child’s education! Canterbury College’s Mum and Kids English course will provide mothers with the essential skills to assist in their child's development in literacy while strengthening their maternal bond.
The Mums and Kids English programme is designed for people from a migrant or refugee background. This course addresses the needs of mothers and their pre-school children. It builds on the positive aspect that the mothers vest their hopes for the future in their children’s education and are prepared to make great efforts to assist their children to succeed at school.

Course: English for Mothers & Children
This Course will Help To:
Progress the mothers’ English language proficiency: improve vocabulary and expand the use of sentence patterns; improve in speaking and fluency, in particular speaking speed
Increase the mothers’ knowledge and confidence of joint reading in English with the goal of promoting their pre-school children’s developing literacy
Enhance the mothers’ and children’s sense of community and social participation
Support preschool children to more confident and motivated pre-readers (E.g., participating in joint reading, pre-reading, pre-writing)
Improve informal conversational language skills to better communicate with other mothers, neighbours and people in the community, and to perform daily tasks
